Richard Gürtler No matter if entering enthrallingly overwhelming skylines, nebulously extraterrestrial spheres, mysteriously labyrinthine inner zones, spectacularly subaqueous depths or majestically monumental architectural masterpieces, Max Corbacho always delivers the very best of his virtuosic soundcarving, a rewardingly abundant momentum of tremendously sophisticated wizardry in sculpting powerfully transporting opuses. With gem like 70-minute "Nocturnes II", but also with "Source Of Present", "Nocturnes" and most especially with recently released "Horizon Matrix" (out since November 30th, 2018), Max Corbacho is triumphantly chasing quintessential milestones such as "Ars Lucis" and "The Ocean Inside". Once again, bravo, Maestro!!!

DJ Soma My favorite deep night sleeptime listening album at the moment (again from mighty MAX). I got this as a promo from this gentle and super-talented ambient wizard. There's more going on on this album than in his other recent releases and it's perfect for white summer nights in Finland. Before this I've been rotating Source of Present and have also have Nocturnes I, Splendid Labyrinths, The Ocean Inside, Lost Links, Ars Lucis and BreathStream in heavy rotation when they we're fresh. Favorite track: Celistia.

Vinyl Lover I hope Max Corbacho never stops producing the immense spatial soundstages that he is currently producing. They take my spirit on journeys that my body will never experience. Delicious sounds to tickle my ears again and again! Favorite track: Nocturnal Bloom.

about

In Nocturnes II, Max Corbacho crafts a new chapter in his series, enticing the listener to dive deeply into more than 70 minutes of atmospheric soundscaping.

Expansive and meditative, these seven exclusive, new sound meditations burn slowly, like the light of a distant star, illuminating a breathing, ghostly landscape. The treatment that Corbacho gives his synthesizers, samplers and fx processors in this new album, profoundly organic and visceral, connects seamlessly with his creative trajectory. This 2018 release marks two decades since the publication of his first album in 1998.

This music possesses an ambience of terrestrial connection; the sound emerges from the earth and is channeled through the electronic instruments at a subliminal level, unable to be expressed in words. The silky and intricate atmosphere of these soundscapes directs the listener to the depths of the night, coaxing one to contemplate the firmament and the shadows sketched by the faint light of the stars. The world that Max Corbacho portrays in these seven pieces is, by turns, meditative, powerful, serene, and luminous. At other times, Corbacho masterfully blurs the texture, with expansive notes and chords evolving in space and time. The relaxed harmonic progression of “Celistia” marks the gateway to a mysterious world, gradually awakening and evolving throughout the album. Nocturnes II can be enjoyed at a background level, accompanying the listener's daily tasks, or in a more active listening at a high volume creating a powerful and visceral experience.

The inspiration for the Nocturnes trilogy was twofold, arising from three extant tracks and Corbacho's nocturnal photography that is featured on the series artwork. Corbacho employs the main theme from each of the existing tracks in the three chapters of his trilogy. Thus, in this second installment, “Celistia” is the oldest track, composed alongside the first track of the first chapter, “Dark Sky Opening.” The remaining track will be presented in the third album of the series, along with new soundscapes.

In Max own words:
" I have worked intensely in the creation of these seven sound spaces during the last five years, being Celistia, the first piece of this album, one of the three pieces that were completed first. I have treated this album as a mysterious and serene world that slowly awakens to unfold a previously hidden magic. During the creation process, in my checks during the recording, mixing and mastering, I submerged myself in the quiet meditation and silent isolation of the night in the middle of nature to verify the effect by myself each time I completed a piece or made a change. This is how this series was conceived. "
